National Institute of Immunohaematology (NIIH) is situated in KEM Hospital , Parel, Mumbai campus and is more than 50 years old and is administered by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under Department of Health Research (DHR), Govt. of India. Discovery of Bombay Blood Group, in blood group, cost effective treatment for congenital bleeding disorders, development of prenatal diagnostic techniques for many haematological disorders, field studies on haemoglobinopathies are some of its achievements.

This Institute is one of the premier Institute in India , and is involved in research in Haematology and Transfusion Medicine. Presently the major areas of work are haemoglobinopathies, congenital bleeding disorders, DNA repair defects, hereditary and acquired immunodeficiency, development of novel antibodies through hybridoma work, molecular genetics of blood group antigens, rare blood groups, HLA and immunogenetics, Transfusion transmitted disorders are some of the areas on which the Institute has contributed immensely in the field of research. Antenatal diagnosis of haematological disorders in another strong area of NIIH work. NIIH work in close association with KEM Hospital , a leading medical college and tertiary care centre in Mumbai. The Institute runs M.Sc. (Research) and Ph.D. programme in applied biology for the University of Mumbai and also conduct DM (Clinical Haematology) for the University of Mumbai and have recently applied for Ph.D. programme in Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Molecular Biology & Cytogenetics from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The Institute has state of the art laboratories for hematology research and is recognized as WHO training centre for transfusion medicine. It is also recognized for International Haemophillia Training Centre under World Federation of Haemophilia.

Qualification & Experience :
Essential
: (i) MBBS Degree recognized by MCI or first class Master’s Degree in Life/Biological Sciences or relevant biological subjects or second class Master’s Degree in Life/Biological Sciences with Ph.D. Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.(ii) Ten years research experience in the field of Immunohaematology/ Haematology.

Desirable : (i) Ph.D. Degree in Haematology/ Immunohaematology/ Immunology or MD in Medicine/Pediatrics/Pathology/ Microbiology/ Pharmacology. (ii) Additional post doctoral research/teaching experience in Immunohaematology/ Haematology. (iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.

Job Requirements : This is a senior position of the scientific staff of the institute and the candidate will be required to lead independent research group and plan, conduct and supervise basic and applied research in the area of haematological disorders. The candidate is expected to have conducted good quality original research as evidenced by publications in indexed scientific journals; have scientific communication skills (verbal and written) as evidenced by presentations made and papers published at National and International level as first author, have a proven track record for securing research grant through competitive bidding at National and International level; demonstrate quest for excellence reflected by awards, prizes, fellowships etc. conferred by professional bodies; should have ability to lead a team and have had administrative experience at mid level management position.

Age Limit : Preferably below 50 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel and Training from time to time in this regard.
